The 126 km (78 mile) long water pipeline runs through a combination of mountainous terrain, swamps and dry desert conditions.
KIM was used to waterproof and prevent corrosion of reinforcing steel. KIM was also applied to protect it against sulfate attack and guard the steel against water-soluble contaminants.
The pipes consist of a steel frame lined inside and out with concrete. The concrete lining on the outside of the pipes was coated using the Krystol T1 and KIM (Krystol Internal Membrane). Pump stations along the pipeline were coated with the Krystol T1 & T2 Waterproofing System.
The pipeline is still in operation and provides effective, low maintenance supply of fresh water from Ville de Bravo to Mexico City.
