Concrete is one of the world’s oldest and most durable building materials; and water is its most dangerous aggressor. The maze of capillaries and micro-cracks within the concrete can create a sponge-like effect, and draw water into the structure. This water will attack reinforcing steel, weaken the structure and cause other serious problems such as leaking. Without adequate waterproofing, both the structural integrity and profits of a structure are at risk.
Crystalline waterproofing is the revolutionary technology that has changed the way the concrete structures resist the elements – by waterproofing them from within. Crystalline waterproofing waterproofs concrete through millions of microscopic crystals, which completely fill pores and spaces in concrete and permanently block water seepage. The most recent version of the American Concrete Institute’s ACI 212.3R-10: Report on Chemical Admixtures for Concrete includes a new chapter on permeability reducing admixtures (PRA). PRAs can be divided into two categories:
Kryton International Inc.’s Krystol Internal Membrane or KIM is the only admixture that demonstrates the performance of a hydrophilic crystalline, PRAH. KIM provides the highest level of water resistance, self-sealing and field-proven longevity, which proves its effectiveness as a PRAH.
