The importance of using less resources in construction and building materials as well as self-healing concrete structure was emphasised in “The Path to Sustainability” seminar at the Radisson Hotel on Thursday.
Dato Paduka Hj Idris bin Hj Abas, who is the President of the Green Building Council and the Chief Executive and Principal architect of Arkitek Idris attended the seminar as the guest of honour.
Other participants included senior staff and personnel from various construction firms and government departments.
The main speaker, Alireza Biparva, Research and Development Manager and Concrete Specialist from Kryton International Inc presented his expertise on concrete technology in construction projects.
Speaking to the Bulletin, a leading expert in the local construction industry and General Manager of BUE Enterprise, Chris Yong explained that utilising and creating a more durable structure will have less negative impacts on the environment.
As a prime example, he cited the concrete design in construction which has durable properties will last up to 50 years and thus, will have a much better impact on the environment than a less durable one.
BUE Enterprise is the main local distributor of construction materials from Canadian-based Kryton International, the inventor of the crystalline waterproofing admixture and has been waterproofing concrete since 1973. Their durable materials utilise technology that transforms concrete into a waterproof barrier.
