Boston, Massachusetts — America’s most trusted home improvement brand, “This Old House” has recently featured concrete waterproofing products from Kryton International Inc.’s Krystol Line on their weekly national television program.
Season 34 of “This Old House TV”, features the renovation of a beautiful 1872 Italianate family home in the Boston suburb of Arlington. The original below-grade fieldstone foundation and brickwork suffered from severe leakage and deterioration caused by water runoff from years of improper drainage issues.
In Episode 12, Kryton’s Krystol Mortar Admixture (KMA) (also known as “Types E”) was added to the mortar used to repair the brickwork around the base of the home. Greg Maugeri from Kryton’s East Coast distribution partner New England Dry Concrete (NEDC), starts off by explaining that by adding KMA, the highly porous mortar was transformed into a water-resistant, crack resistant barrier. This barrier will then have the ability to permanently withstand even the harsh weather systems that can occur in the area. KMA is specially formulated to provide long-term protection in cementitious mortar, by reducing both permeability and absorption. It contains Kryton’s unique and proven Krystol Technology to simplify installation and provides superior performance such as the ability to self-seal minor cracks and withstand water under pressure.
Viewers were then taken into the basement itself to watch NEDC’s Billy Della Sorte repair cracks in the fieldstone basement walls with the Krystol Crack Repair system. Using the same Krystol Technology, the system consists of a fast setting plug, which can be applied even in wet conditions. The Krystol Plug will stop an active leak, and quickly get to work growing crystals to stop water penetration. The system is finished off with Krystol Bari-Cote, to secure the repair, and Krystol T1 to infiltrate more crystals into the crack and surrounding area.
This marks the first appearance of Kryton products on an episode of “This Old House”.
