The importance of a local police force in any community cannot be understated. No community agency knows as much about their local area, responds as quickly to problems, and understands community concerns as much as local law enforcement. However, in order for them to be so entrenched in community issues, they must be situated in a proper hub to perform duties many rely on. The new Royal Brunei Police Force Headquarters does just that, as well as act as a beacon for community resiliency.
The stable yet dynamic building in Brunei Darussalam is a large expanse with moving reflections via multiple window angles when driving past. The building is meant to be viewed as world class, thus expected to be reliable and durable in all aspects, as well as built in a timely fashion, yet without sacrificing quality. To that end, a concrete waterproofing product that would permanently ensure a watertight concrete structure was needed.
To ensure the building met durability standards, the architects and engineers wanted a waterproofing system with a proven track record around the world. The roof top suspended slab design with posttension had a span of 130 m x 20 m (426 ft. x 66 ft.). Kryton’s Krystol Internal Membrane™ (KIM®) was used to waterproof the roof top and suspended slab, taking three-weeks off of the construction timeline by erasing the need to install an external membrane, which may have punctured during construction. Krystol T1® & T2® Waterproofing System was used for the pantries and toilets, and the Krystol Waterstop System™ for the construction joints.
