Concrete & Masonry Construction Products – March/ April 2006
You may have noticed a buzz about the Most Innovative Products contest at this year’s World of Concrete. It’s no surprise – 2006 saw the largest participation in the contest’s four-year history. One hundred and forty-four entries – roughly twice as many as in 2005-vied for recognition in seven categories. From early December, when the online voting began, through the close of voting in mid-February, they inspired voters to cast more than 2000 ballots, again more than doubling last year’s voting.
And now it’s time to announce the winners. The Attendees’ Choice awards went to those products that received the highest number of votes. In addition, each product was awarded points based strictly on innovation, which then determined the Experts’ Choice awards. In some of the more crowded categories, strong voter support for more than one product made it clear that recognition should be given to additional products. In those cases, you’ll find products designated Honorable Mention, in addition to the Attendees’ Choice and Experts’ Choice awards in each category.
HONORABLE MENTION:
THE KRYSTOL WATERSTOP SYSTEM
The Krystol Waterstop system employs cementitious products – Waterstop Grout and Waterstop Treatment – to create a physical barrier against water penetration. A triangleshaped strip of grout is created along the edge of a concrete slab where a new waII is to be poured. It is covered with the waterstop treatment and the concrete waII is poured. The system reacts with water and unhydrated cement to form microscopic crystals, sealing the spaces between concrete particles and permanently blocking water penetration.
