Kryton’s Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) technology is an innovative concrete waterproofing solution. When added to the concrete mix itself, the Krystol proprietary chemicals react with water or moisture to grow millions of needle-shaped crystals. These unique crystals grow deep into the concrete to fill and block the capillary pores and microcracks and stop the migration of water through the concrete, efficiently rendering the concrete itself waterproof. The chemicals then lie dormant within the concrete permanently, until any water or moisture is reintroduced. The Krystol technology will then react, creating more crystals to block the water penetration.

The KIM technology is reportedly the only PRAH (Permeability Reducing Admixture for Hydrostatic Conditions) according to the American Concrete Institute (ACI). The ACI’s report (ACI 212.3R-10: Report on Chemical Admixtures for Concrete) also states that KIM has stood up to more independent tests than any other solution.
The KIM technology was used when constructing the world’s largest volume building under a single roof – The Boeing Developmental Centre in Seattle in 1983. KRYTON Kryton said this structure remains waterproof today, surpassing its original 25-year warranty.
Kryton has waterproofed hundreds of high-risk concrete waterproofing project around the world using Krystol technology, including Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands, and the megaproject, CityCenter in Las Vegas. The technology has also been used in many Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects, such as the TELUS Gardens in Vancouver, and contributes to up to six valuable LEED points to those projects.
