The Road to Recovery for the Gateway Sector

COVID-19 has significantly impacted transportation networks across the world. In response to this, the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade’s (GVBOT’s) Transportation Forum 2020 on June 3 chose to explore how international transportation leaders will navigate these challenges. Part of that included an in-depth look at what recovery might look like and how leaders are considering their rebound plans.

Hosted by Kryton’s CEO Kari Yuers, this discussion covered the following themes:

• The resiliency of supply chains and their ability to rebound after COVID-19
• The importance of border fluidity as restrictions ease
• Finding innovative ways to address old bottlenecks while planning for new challenges

Participants in the discussion included the following:

• Vancouver Airport Authority’s Vice President of Operations and Maintenance
• Air Canada Cargo’s Vice President Tim Strauss

• GVBOT’s President and CEO Bridgitte Anderson

Together, they provided a grounded but productive view of how transportation will adapt in light of COVID-19, noting a need for trust and to work quickly together to properly manage the pandemic.
