Part of that has meant increasing our reach out to those who are looking for a sustainable concrete hardening solution. After all, we know how challenging it can be to balance the need to protect the aesthetic of a structure, extend its service life, and meet a carbon reduction strategy.
That’s why we offer Hard-Cem®, an integral hardening admixture for concrete. With it, architects, engineers, and other construction professionals can meet all three goals and more. It’s made possible thanks to Hard-Cem’s ability to significantly increase concrete abrasion and erosion resistance without the need for additional Portland cement. That doubles the life of the concrete without doubling the carbon emissions created by cement manufacturing.
It’s a sustainable solution and one that we wanted to make viable for any carbon reduction strategy. As a result, we had a sustainability consultant verify that Hard-Cem can be part of an innovative design strategy.
Upon review of our environmental product declaration (EPD) for Hard-Cem, they determined that the hardening admixture could improve environmental performance in concrete construction and contribute to LEED credits. As a result, we are pleased to state that Hard-Cem can contribute to the following LEED credits under the LEED v4 and v4.1 rating frameworks:
Hard-Cem is also capable of meeting sustainability frameworks beyond the LEED rating system. Details can be found in the newly developed EPD.
