Vancouver, B.C. / Beverly Hills, CA – (December 1, 2011)
Kryton International Inc. has been awarded Project of the Year in the GreenSite Awards. The GreenSite Awards recognize sustainable use of concrete in remarkable construction projects. Kryton takes the win in the Industrial Category amongst a total of nine winners. The award was for the concrete waterproofing work at the TreePeople’s 216,000 gallon underground concrete cistern. The win solidifies Kryton’s risk mitigating abilities as the world’s inventor of integral concrete waterproofing. The concrete waterproofing needs for this project were immense as the cistern is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. The cistern is covered with a combination of hardscape, permeable pavement and a seasonal wildflower garden.
In September 2011, TreePeople hosted their annual fundraising gala, An Evening Under the Harvest Moon, on top of the cistern, transforming the tank into a dining floor. The much-anticipated event was dedicated to celebrating the people and partnerships that had helped TreePeople transform Los Angeles into a greener city. Highlights from the night included Founder and President, Andy Lipkis’ annual State of the Forest Address and was wrapped up by Sara and Sean Watkins of the GRAMMY© Award-winning band, Nickel Creek. Because conventional waterproofing membranes deteriorate over time, the center’s owners opted instead to use Kryton’s Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) and the Krystol Waterstop System. When added to the concrete mix, KIM cures to form crystals that fill the spaces between concrete particles, permanently waterproofing the structure. By eliminating costly repairs and maintenance, KIM will provide worry-free waterproofing for the life of the cistern.
