London, England (September 12th, 2014) – Kryton International Inc. is proud to announce that the world’s leading Integral Crystalline Waterproofing admixture, Krystol Internal Membrane™ (KIM®), has been shortlisted for ‘Equipment/Product Innovation of the Year’ at the International Tunnelling & Underground Space Awards.
The first stage of judging for the awards just completed with Kryton’s ‘Strachan Avenue Grade Separation Upgrade‘ submission, where KIM was used as the concrete waterproofing solution. Kryton’s submission impressed the judges enough to be shortlisted for the international awards ceremony in December. KIM was used in the Toronto GO Transit project in order to streamline the waterproofing approach due to the tunnels tight quarters, which allowed for a continuous concrete pour using a slip form system. KIM erased the need for an external membrane, saving the construction crew much needed time and, in the end, money.
The judging was done over a four week span, reviewing and deliberating over the exceptional entries for this year’s awards. This is the fifth year for the International Tunnelling & Underground Space Awards and marks the first occasion Kryton has entered a submission.
The awards are brought to us by the New Civil Engineer and supported by the International Tunnelling & Underground Space Association, recognizing excellence in the delivery of international tunnelling and underground space projects around the world.
This is not the first time Kryton’s KIM admixture has been shortlisted for an award of international recognition. In fact, Kryton’s KIM admixture won the Experts’ Choice award for Most Innovative Product at the World of Concrete 2003. In that competition, KIM beat out over 100 companies that submitted 136 products for evaluation.
The winners in each of the International Tunnelling & Underground Space Awards 12 categories will be announced on Thursday, December 4th in London.
