Initial construction of four huge DAFT tanks, several meters in height and 400 millimeters (16 inches) thick, did not utilize Kryton’s Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) admixture. Severe cracking and leaking resulted, especially at the tapered tie holes and cracked locations. Subsequent ground settling contributed to the poor performance by creating new cracks. Some voids were full depth and as much as 400 mm (16 inches) in diameter. In 1996, Kryton was consulted and contracted to provide Krystol materials to repair the leaking tanks and other walls at the facilities.
Krystol Bari-Cote was used to repair the tapered tie holes. Krystol T1 & T2 Waterproofing System were applied to the inside surfaces of the tanks. Subsequent inspections over several years after the Krystol treatment was applied showed that many cracks continued to develop in the huge tanks. However, the cracks quickly self-healed and did not leak. The Krystol materials continue to perform beyond expectation.
Krystol T1 is a surface applied crystalline slurry treatment that transforms new or existing concrete into a permanent waterproofing barrier.
Krystol Bari-Cote is a high-strength crystalline concrete waterproofing top coat used to resurface and repair concrete or masonry.
