The Brewery District development sits on the land formally occupied by the Labat Brewing Company. The former buildings on the site had been used for over 125 years of brewery operations. When Labat decommissioned their brewery in 2005 the site was purchased for a mixed use development.
The nine-acre site has a beautiful view overlooking the Fraser River and was the perfect spot for retail, commercial, health and residential space.
When the builders constructed the Brewery District’s 1.4 million square feet they used Kryton’s Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) waterproofing admixture above grade. This was a unique use for Kryton’s KIM (traditionally used in below grade applications). The developers needed a solid solution to keep the HVAC and electrical rooms dry while also reducing their long-term maintenance costs. The builders selected Kryton’s KIM; KIM provides lifelong waterproofing, with no need to reapply elastomeric coatings which require reapplication every five to ten years. Kryton’s KIM lasts the life of the concrete and the HVAC and electrical rooms remain dusty dry.
