Even before they began building, the owners of this high-end home in Georgia’s Buckhead area knew they had a waterproofing challenge on their hands. Situated 3 meters (10 feet) below grade, the home’s basement sits on the side of a hill, where it is subjected to significant hydrostatic pressure. Knowing that the property’s previous owners had experienced similar problems, the homeowners needed a reliable, long-lasting waterproofing solution to protect their deluxe finished basement and wine cellar.
This home was built using Kryton’s Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) admixture and the Krystol Waterstop System to protect the construction joints from water intrusion.
The internal method for installing the Krystol Watersop System uses two Krystol-based products, Krystol Waterstop Treatment and Krystol Waterstop Grout. A 5 cm wide by 3 cm (2 in. by 1.2 in.) high triangle-shaped strip of Krystol Waterstop Grout is created along the edge of a horizontal concrete slab where a new vertical wall is to be poured. Once the grout has cured, Krystol Waterstop Treatment is applied and the concrete wall can be poured as normal.
The system saves construction time and costs by reducing the need for skilled trades. Although the concrete contractor had not used the system previously, they grasped the concept right away and within a few hours, two employees had prepared more than 260 ft. using the system.
Using the Krystol Waterstop System in place of a conventional membrane system saved the homeowners more than $2 USD per linear foot. Perhaps more important than the cost savings, however, is the peace of mind they get from knowing that this waterproofing will last the lifetime of their home.
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
Krystol Waterstop Grout is a crystalline grout used to create an internal or external waterstop at construction joints, pipe penetrations, tie-holes and control joints.
Krystol Waterstop Treatment is a cementitious crystalline slurry that is applied to horizontal and vertical construction joints to provide additional waterproofing protection, and protect rebar from corrosion.
Krytonite Swelling Waterstop is a synthetic rubber waterstop that uses swelling pressure to seal concrete construction joints and stop water.
Kryton’s Crack Inducing Waterstop is specially engineered to produce a waterproof crack control joint.
The Krystol Waterstop System is used to permanently waterproof concrete construction joints, pipe penetrations, tie holes and control joints. The Krystol Waterstop System works where other waterstops routinely fail. Kryton is the only integral waterproofing company that offers fully integrated concrete waterproofing solutions.
