The Horizon Tower is a $28 million, two block development offering residential suites on 18 floors in a luxurious building. It is located in the heart of the old, prestigious “Ein El Mraiseh” seafront. The main Contractor of this project was concerned about possible leakage from two suspended roof pools. The Contractor has successfully used Kryton products in the past, and after careful evaluation of alternatives, he called on T.A Group to perform the critical task of waterproofing the building.
The concrete surface had to be ground off to create an open capillary system followed by crack and joint repairs, plugging of tie bars, and finally the entire surface received the Krystol T1 & T2 Waterproofing System surface-applied treatment.
Krystol T1 & T2 is a simple, two-step cementitious slurry system that is brushapplied to existing concrete structures. After application, chemicals from Krystol T1 & T2 are absorbed into the concrete through capillary action (the natural wicking movement of liquids through a porous structure) and diffusion (the natural movement of chemical molecules.)
Since the majority of active crystalline chemicals migrate into the concrete within the first 28 days, the surface-applied slurry can be completely removed from the surface after this time with no impact to its waterproofing properties. Unlike external membranes, Krystol will not deteriorate – it is guaranteed to last the lifetime of the structure.
Both the Contractor and the consulting engineers were extremely impressed with the results, even though they expected nothing short of perfection. Later, a water channel received similar treatment.
Krystol T1 is a surface applied crystalline slurry treatment that transforms new or existing concrete into a permanent waterproofing barrier.
