The complex at Cathedral Place has five (5) levels of underground parking. The structure was designed to extend to each of the site boundaries and conventional tanking of the building could not be considered. The use of Kryton's Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) for tanking the building allowed maximum use of the available site as the concrete was placed directly against the excavation wall and no other waterproofing method was necessary.
In 1997, construction began with 2400 cubic meters (3,000 cubic yards) of KIM concrete requiring 12,000 kg (26,500 lbs) of KIM. The application has been inspected each year and the parking structure remains completely dry.
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
