As a heritage site, the SABMiller building in Braamfontein, South Africa, receives certain forms of protection. However, those did not protect it from the numerous defects that occurred over time throughout its concrete basement parkade and plaster. Most of which started to leak, requiring that the building be repaired. And because of the building’s heritage status, any repairs done needed to be completed without damaging the original plantation and vegetation on-site. Essentially, that meant that the only viable waterproofing systems for the building would have to be ones that could be applied from the negative side of the water pressure.
Hired to take on this tough situation, Sanika Waterproofing Specialists knew just what to use. Knowing that Kryton’s crystalline waterproofing technology is unique in its ability to repair a damaged structure from the negative side of water pressure, the waterproofing specialists went with Kryton’s solutions. These would not just help repair the building. They would also provide the repair team with a cost-effective waterproofing and repair system that would ensure the longevity of the building.
To that end, Sanika Waterproofing Specialists successfully employed Kryton’s Krystol Leak Repair System. That involved stopping the leaking water from flowing with the use of the Krystol Plug™, a rapid-setting hydraulic cement solution; resurfacing defective or deteriorating concrete with the Krystol Repair Grout™; and applying Krystol T1® and Krystol Bari-Cote to the surface of the concrete to transform it into a waterproof barrier.
