The Site C Clean Energy Project is the third dam and generating station on the Peace River in northeastern British Columbia (BC), Canada. Once complete, it will provide enough energy to power about 450,000 homes for the next 100 years.
As with all dams, the Site C dam will be subject to the highly erosive forces of water. As a result, it is a critical component of construction planning to choose materials that will maximize the service life of the dam’s structures.
It is important that the Site C structures, including the powerhouse, service bay, main floor of the operations building, spillway headworks, intake, and transition block structures, have the durability to resist erosive forces.
Hard-Cem was chosen as an ideal solution because it is both environmentally friendly and easier to apply than the traditional dry shake products that are available. As a result, over 200 tons of Hard-Cem will be used for the Site C Clean Energy Project, with full confidence that it will provide integrity to the project’s structures and allow it to provide BC with the reliable electricity the province needs.
