Ballyshannon located in the County Donegal is the oldest city in Ireland and home to St. Patrick’s Church. The church was built in 1795; its age and battle with the area’s year-round damp weather was showing its wear. The church was in need of significant restoration to bring it to its former glory.
Kryton’s restoration products were selected to refurbish this historic church. After a thorough cleaning, Hydrostop Sealer was applied to the outside stone to provide a water repellent effect. Hydrostop Sealer’s unique blend of silane and siloxane compounds works better and lasts longer than conventional sealers. The long lasting effects of Hydrostop Sealer was important to the team knowing they would not need to repeat the work for many years.
Kryton’s Krystol Mortar Admixture (KMA) was added to the render that sealed all the windows in the church. Adding KMA to the render provided a barrier to water and the damp conditions often present in these old buildings.
The architect on the job was very pleased and specified both products again on two other church restorations – Killygordon and Cashelard.
Krystol Mortar Admixture (KMA) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to provide long-term protection of masonry mortars and concrete masonry units against water and waterborne contaminants by reducing permeability and absorption of the mortar.
Hydrostop Sealer is a high-performance penetrating sealer used by itself to protect concrete, brick, mortar and masonry from the damaging effects of water intrusion.
